Mountain Forest Siberians/Ron Cook is now an administer for the group Husky Huddle And Malamute Mingle - Kentucky (H2M2 -KY). H2M2 is a group of northern breed enthusiasts currently in 9 states who promote education, rescue and interaction between northern breed canines. In an effort to acheive this H2M2 organizes meetups at local area dog parks in several states in order for people with northern breed canines to meet and socialize while thier canine companions run and play in a pack setting within a secured location.

H2M2 promotes and supports the rescue and rehoming of northern breed canines in need. We DO NOT allow the sale or buying of dogs and/or puppies on our group sites.

Inaugural H2M2 - KY Meet, March 10, 2013

The inaugural Husky Huddle and Malamute Mingle in KY was held at Vetner Dog Park in Louisville, KY today. The event went well with no major incidence. The park is very open with a nice wooded area for the dogs to run and play in. Even though they spent a lot of time playing around us, all the dogs loved the freedom of the park and being able to mingle with each other.

In attendance were:

Ron Cook/Mountain Forest Siberians with Bullet and Thunder

James Akemon with Chenook, Shadow and Luna

Chris Colvin with Nuk and Radar

and from Indiana

Kenny Adam with Sakura .

We had a great time getting to know each other and letting the dogs run and play.

The next Husky Huddle and Malamute Mingle - KY is scheduled to be held in Lexington, KY on March 16, 2013.

Breeding Policy and Litters

Mountain Forest Siberians DOES NOT breed for profit nor income. Although we occasionally have litters it is a very rare occurrence. We have only had 5 litters in the past 10 years. When we do breed, our primary purpose is to increase and/or improve our own pack/team. After choosing our pick-of-the-litter to remain here, all other puppies in each litter will go to family, friends and/or other northern breed kennels or individuals with prior experience with northern breed dogs. Only then will we consider new homes for the remaining puppies, if any, in the litter. ALL new homes considered MUST have met with our prior approval which will only be granted after an interested party has proven their knowledge regarding northern breed dogs. We WILL NOT consider anyone we believe to be a backyard breeder or puppy mill.

If you are interested in our dogs and/or puppies please feel free to follow our blog for current information and/or contact us by email.

#1F - light red & white

#2F - black and white

#3F - brown and white

#4M - brown and white

#5F - brown, black and white (possibly agouti)

All 5 of these puppies are pending transfer to their new homes once they reach an appropriate age. NONE are available for new inquiries

Health Clearances and Vaccinations

February 2013

Bullet's and Storm's DNA samples were sent in to AKC several months ago but AKC was not able to analyze the samples so they sent me resample kits for both dogs. Both resamples have been collected and mailed to the AKC lab for analyzing. Let's hope they go through this time.

In addition, Thunder's DNA sample was also sent in today for analyzing.

I look forward to receiving all 3 DNA profiles in approximately 6 weeks.

The only male we still need to file a DNA profile for is King, our 1 yr old, black and white boy. Then we'll start doing the girls' DNA profiles.

Also, we have done Dancer's OFA certification which came back "good". Next, we'll be doing Bullet's OFA certification' followed by Storm's and then the rest of the team/pack according to their age. We expect "good" to "excellent" ratings on all our team/pack members.

Cheyenne, Bullet and Thunder went to the vet today to get their annual vaccinations and rabies shots. All three are in good physical condition with Cheyenne weighing 56.4 lbs, Bullet weighing 51.9 lbs and Thunder weighing 53.8 lbs. All three were on their best behavior while we were there.

The rest of the team/pack will be getting their vaccinations and rabies shots over the next 3 - 4 weeks.

ABOUT US

We're Back

I had a heart attack early last year so I have been negligent in posting about Team Mountain Forest / Mountain Forest Siberians. I'm back to full health now and will be posting about our team on a regular basis so please follow our blog if you'd like to know what we're up to.
I will begin by blogging about our history and then bringing it up to the present time.

Our love for Siberian Huskies and dryland mushing began with one stray Siberian Husky X we found in 2002. We named her Ageya and made her a member of our family for about six months until she was claimed by her prior owner. She was returned to him but jumped his fence and returned to us on her own accord a few weeks later.

During the time Ageya was back at her prior home we rescued a purebred female Siberian Husky from a broken home and named her Unole. Then we were eventually able to arrainge for Ageya to come live with us permanently. Unole and Ageya loved to run so I began using my bicycle to run them around our neighborhood every night and thus my love for bikejoring was born..

A few months after Unole and Ageya came to our home, a girl who worked for me had a ten month old AKC registered male Siberian Husky named Draco she could no longer keep. She brought him to me and I loved his energy so he came to join our pack but the second night he was with us he went through a screen door and took both females with him. Ageya returned the next day and Unole was found and returned to us two days later but Draco was not apprehended until five days after his escape. During his free running Draco had travelled over ten miles feom our house, walked onto the porch of a feed store and sat down beneath a poster I had put on their bullentin board with his picture on it.

In addition to our three returning to us two more females were brought to us as a result of people seeing the missing posters I hung up everywhere I could within a 10 - 15 mile radius of my our house so now we had 5 Siberian Huskies. We named them Gogi and Cinnamon. Unfortunately, Cinnamon would not get along with Ageya so we had to find another home for her but recieved a male puppy in exchange. We named him Waya.

In 2004 we moved from Texas to Kentucky and brought Draco, Ageya, Unole, Gogi and Waya with us. By this time I was hooked on bikejoring and wanting to learn more about dryland mushing but could not afford to keep all the dogs at that time so Unole went to live with a friend of mine and Gogi went live with my aunt.

Shortly after rehoming Unole and Gogi I acquired a new job and began a serious quest to start a proper kennel and dryland mushing team. Neither Ageya nor Waya were purebred Siberians, nor were they registered, and thus both were altered. With this in mind I acquired two AKC regestered females to pair with Draco as the foundation for my lines and team.

Thus, Mountain Forest Siberians was founded in early 2005 with three AKC Siberian Huskies (Draco, Cheyenne and Gola)  and two non-registered Siberian Husky X (Ageya and Waya), both of whom were altered. Since then we have grown and learned more about Siberian Huskies, dryland mushing and breeding quality Siberian Huskies.

Training: 2009/10

GigageGatlida of Mountain Forest has been away on a job in the Panhandle of Texas for the past couple of months. I retuned home in time for the holidays and am now beginning to focus more strongly on the training regime of our team/pack. We have spent the past 2 weeks training in the use of the mushing commands as well as walking & jogging the dogs in pairs & triplets so they will be accustomed to working in tandem. Now it is time to renew our training in bikejoring with the goal of upgrading to a dryland rig in the very near future.

1/8/2010 - 1/10/2010

Dec. 2009:

We had snow for the 1st time this year & took advantage of it to have some fun and train the team at the same time. We used a small plastic sled to let one dog at a time pull my younguns around the yard. We also went to the park where we were able to use a larger plastic sled to train 2 dogs in pulling. My younguns and the dogs all had a great time.

Draco, Aurora & Adahi were all very eager to run and pull. Draco and Aurora are definately lead dogs and Adahi may prove to be a leader as well if he gains a little more size. Cheyenne, MoonDancer & PathFinder are hesitant to pull the weight of the sled behind them and will need a little extra training running in tandem with one of the lead dogs but will prove to be very good team dogs.

April 2010:

I have been on the road off and on for the past couple of months. As a result, our training has been intermittent at best. Now I will be off work for several weeks but it is too warm to do any running with the dogs so I will focus on training with commands while walking them, possibly some jogging in the early morning hours.
